Bachelor in Paradise: 6 Breakups That Almost Ruined Our Belief in Love During Season 5

This season of Bachelor in Paradise was a whirlwind of romance and heartbreak. We dealt with love triangles, long-haired villains, and the stunning realization that Jordan might be one of the funniest men in paradise.

But in the grand scheme of it all, Paradise is about people searching for love and hoping to find their happily ever after. While some were lucky enough to find "the one" in paradise, others ended up taking that sad limo ride back home alone. Ahead, we've rounded up the couples from season five that had some seriously heartbreaking splits. Break out the tissues, folks; this is going to get emotional.

01
Colton and Tia
ABC

Colton and Tia

Colton and Tia's romance preceded their time in paradise but the majority of their drama definitely occurred on the island. Tia readily admitted that she came on the island for Colton, who was also transparent about his desire to explore his other options. Though the pair eventually decided to couple up, it didn't last long. After watching another romance fall apart, Colton realized it wasn't going to work with Tia and broke it off during week four. The two left the island and soon after, Colton was announced as the next Bachelor. Tia has shown no hard feelings toward her ex, congratulating him on his journey.

02
Eric and Angela
ABC

Eric and Angela

These two seemed like such a sweet fit! As one of the less drama-stricken couples on Paradise, Eric and Angela flew under the radar for most of time. The two paired up during the earlier half of the season and steadily built their relationship, even adopting the motto of being "all in." They were rock steady! Enter Cassandra, whom Eric quickly took a liking to. After one date, Eric was suddenly all about Cassandra and poor Angela was left without a rose that following night. The next day, Eric seemed to realize exactly what he had done and who he let go, telling Cassandra he had no interest in pursuing a relationship with her so late in the game. Eric ended up leaving paradise alone, while Angela has since moved on with The Bachelorette's Clay Harbor. In case you were wondering, they're adorable.

03
Joe and Kendall
ABC

Joe and Kendall

Some will say they knew this was coming, but it still shook Bachelor Nation to its core! We all love Grocery Store Joe and we thought maybe he would find happiness with Kendall. Sure, she said she liked to picnic in cemeteries, but everyone has their quirks! Sadly, it just wasn't meant to happen in paradise. Kendall's commitment issues led to her straying from Joe's affections twice, though he stood by her side no matter what. It all ended when Kendall told Joe that she didn't know if she was in love with him and questioned his feelings for her. Joe was officially over it, telling Kendall that he has always been transparent and that she was the one who didn't know what she wanted. The two went their separate ways and hearts broke everywhere.

Thankfully, things worked out for the couple. During Tuesday's finale reunion, Kendall revealed that she actually made a trip out to Chicago after the two left Paradise. Though Joe was understandably weary, the two decided to take another chance at love! They happily confirmed they are back together and are making the long distance work. Which will probably be easier to manage considering Joe will be in LA for Dancing With the Stars, season 27.

04
Kevin and Astrid
ABC

Kevin and Astrid

This might be the breakup that assures love is dead. Since they paired up, Kevin and Astrid have been the couple in paradise, practically the Mom and Dad of them all. They were stable, they were healthy, they talked through any bumps in the road, and they ate ice cream before bed together. What else are people looking for in love?! The one thing Astrid asked of Kevin was that he not blindside her if he ever decided to end things. Of course that's actually what he ends up doing in the penultimate episode of the series. Overwhelmed by the decision to either take their relationship to the fantasy suite or break up, Kevin breaks down in front of Astrid, tearfully telling her that his heart "isn't in it." His past experiences have caused doubts to rise up and he doesn't think they can make it work. The two break it off, both visibly upset and crying as they leave in their separate limos.

But that wasn't the end! Using Bibiana as a relationship mediator, the two revealed that they had been communicating since the end of Paradise. Kevin admitted that it was his baggage stopping him from making a commitment to Astrid and that he knew he was getting in his own way. With time, therapy, and reflection — the two are taking another chance on love together!

05
Kamil and Annaliese
ABC

Kamil and Annaliese

Before Kamil's arrival in Paradise, Annaliese had two chances at love that ended with her in tears: she paired up with Jordan before he was swept off his feet by Jenna, and she had a brief, but incredibly sweet, coupling with Kenny before he left the island to attend to his daughter. When the former soccer player arrived, Annaliese was sure he was the one. And things seemed to be going that way for the pair — even Kamil's date with another woman on the island didn't part them for long. While fans picked up on the disparity between their feelings — Annaliese clearly felt more for Kamil than he felt for her — the two made it to the fantasy suites and decided to continue their relationship outside of Paradise (though Annaliese had been expecting an engagement).

However, Kamil decided that the perfect place to end their relationship was on national television, during Tuesday's finale reunion. "I don't want to string you along and pretend we have something special still. It's just not working out for me, and I think it's just best to slowly part ways," he said. Annaliese was clearly in shock and had to take a moment off-stage before she came back to confront Kamil about not trying to make their relationship work. Kamil was eventually asked to leave the stage and the remaining cast left their seats to comfort Annaliese, who was understandably upset. It was heartbreaking to watch, but honestly she's so much better off. Airbnb offered her a free stay after the breakup left her stranded in New York City, so it isn't all too bad!

06
Jordan and Jenna
ABC

Jordan and Jenna

Jordan and Jenna surprised everyone by becoming what appeared to be the season's strongest couple. Jordan was instantly smitten with Jenna when she arrived on the island, so much so that he dropped Annaliese like a hot potato. The couple weathered the drama that's inherent on Paradise and happily took their relationship to the next level in their fantasy suite. By the end of the season, it didn't shock anyone when they become one of the two couples to leave Paradise engaged. What did shock everyone were the accusations that came out mere hours before the reunion aired on Tuesday night. A franchise spoiler blogger, Reality Steve, revealed text messages sent from Jenna to an unidentified man claiming that her relationship with Jordan was fake and that she doesn't like him, "let alone love him." Since the report was published Jenna has stated that the story isn't true, but Jordan has admitted that he doesn't believe her. According to a post Jordan published on his Instagram page, he has decided to "remove" himself from the relationship.
