Nicki Minaj is, what many would say, the female version of Lil Wayne. She is what I would say well on her way to being a recognized force among both her male and female peers. With her witty punchlines and animated face she has the ability to make new listeners want to know who she is and where she came from.
Onika Maraj is her birth name, she was raised in Jamaica Queens, New York. Despite what the naysayers may think she isn't your typical rapper, she has taken a page out of the Missy Elliot handbook and sings as well, in order to stand out among the other female rappers in the game. Before signing to Lil' Wayne's Young Money label she was already a force to be reckoned with in the underground circuit.

Once Nicki released her first mixtape in April 2007, it was over from there and her star status begin to rise. "Playtime is Over" was the mixtape that had the underground world buzzing, but it was the second mixtape "Sucka Free" that had people comparing her to the infamous Lil' Kim.
And it didn't hurt that Lil Wayne was on a few tracks as well. Her third mixtape "Beam Me Up Scotty" garnered her widespread success with songs such as, "Itty Bitty Piggy" and my personal favorite "Go Hard" featuring Lil Wayne. Since she has officially come out under the Young Money moniker, Nicki Minaj has been on tracks with Robin Thicke, Gucci Mane, Yo Gotti and most recently Usher's "Little Freak" and Mariah Carey's "Get Up Out My Face."
Oh, and let's not forget the Young Money album which features Lil Wayne, Drake, Tyga, Shanell, Mack Mane, Gudda Gudda, Lil Twist, Lil Chuckee, and numerous others. With her album being slated for a 2010 release, there will be plenty of Nicki Minaj in the future.
