It's the breakout hit from rising star Meghan Trainor, and it just overtook Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off" as the No. 1 song on Billboard's Hot 100. The throwback beat is super catchy and the lyrics are all about body acceptance and self-empowerment. She's new to this. Trainor is only 20 years old, and this is her first single. Though she was signed to a label at 18, she's been primarily a songwriter for other artists.
L.A. Reid was responsible for getting the track made. In an interview with Billboard, Trainor admitted that though she wrote the song over a year ago, producer L.A. Reid was the first to champion it. Supposedly the mogul — who launched artists like Mariah Carey, Avril Lavigne, Pink, and Justin Bieber before appearing as a judge on American Idol — fell in love with it after hearing only a demo and signed her to Epic Records.
