The X-Men franchise has some of the most unique characters in the cinematic world, meaning you're almost guaranteed to find a costume you like. Since X-Men: Apocalypse [1] came out last year, the mutants have been back in the spotlight — along with a slew of young versions of the characters. If you're thinking you'd rather be Famke Janssen over Sophie Turner any day, you're in luck! (Though, come on, Sophie Turner is awesome.) We're providing both versions of the characters who have had two incarnations. Take a look!
Professor X, Patrick Stewart Edition
- What to wear: Aside from a wheelchair, you'll need a classic black suit, a white button-down, and a tie. Also consider getting a bald cap.
- How to act: Extremely powerful. Press your hand to your temple every once in a while like you're reading someone's mind.
Professor X, James McAvoy Edition
- What to wear: You have to go full '70s. Wide-leg flared corduroy pants, a matching jacket, and a classy sweater with a button-up underneath.
- How to act: You're in charge of a school full of kids with crazy powers, so you are pretty busy. You're also in charge of making sure the world doesn't explode, so basically your head hurts all the time.
Magneto, Ian McKellen Edition
- What to wear: An all-black ensemble with touches of red. You'll definitely need a cape and gloves.
- How to act: You're an incredibly powerful mutant. You have the power to control magnetic fields, but you're also a deep guy with a sensitive side.
Magneto, Michael Fassbender Edition
- What to wear: A maroon Under Armour shirt with matching chest armor and a cape along with black pants, black boots, and black gloves. Don't forget your helmet!
- How to act: Intelligent, but very stubborn. You're also deeply wounded by the deaths of your family members, and you're out for vengeance.
Jean Grey, Famke Janssen Edition
- What to wear: You'll need to get decked out in a deep blood-red suit. Grab a long maroon wig or dye your hair for the night.
- How to act: You are arguably the most powerful of the X-Men, and you know it. You have the powers of telekinesis and telepathy — just don't demonstrate them at a party. It (probably) won't work.
Jean Grey, Sophie Turner Edition
- What to wear: You can either wear cool '80s clothes (if you're Jean Grey the student) or a skintight blue suit that zips down the front. Long red hair is a must.
- How to act: You're still getting used to your powers. You feel responsible for the destruction you can create and your guilt carries into your everyday life.
Storm, Halle Berry Edition
- What to wear: A black suit and cape along with a white wig. Grab some white contact lenses for extra measure.
- How to act: Like a force of nature. Get it?
Storm, Alexandra Shipp Edition
- What to wear: Good luck putting together this costume with things from around the house. You need a full rubber bodysuit, complete with a cape and a white mohawk.
- How to act: You have a chip on your shoulder, and you're out to dominate the world.
Cyclops, James Marsden Edition
- What to wear: Jeans, a leather jacket, and of course, sunglasses. You can probably find a similar pair from Oakley.
- How to act: Collected and in control, except if someone threatens your fiancée, Jean Grey.
Cyclops, Tye Sheridan Edition
- What to wear: Honestly, you can get away with jeans and a t-shirt, as long as you wear some special sunglasses to protect your red eye beams from getting out and severing trees.
- How to act: You have no idea how to control your power yet, and it terrifies you. Despite this, you try to remain cool in front of your crush, Jean Grey.
Beast, Kelsey Grammer Edition
- What to wear: Full-on blue face paint with impressive blue sideburns. Toss on a doctor's lab coat.
- How to act: You're brilliant and you have heightened senses. The fact that you're a blue beast is really just an afterthought.
Beast, Nicholas Hoult Edition
- What to wear: Khakis, a sweater-vest with a button-up shirt and tie underneath, a lab coat, and some thick glasses.
- How to act: Like you're still coming into your own as a scientist (and a mutant). You want to help out the team, but you're constantly distracted by Mystique's beauty.
Mystique, Rebecca Romijn-Stamos Edition
- What to wear: I hope you're not allergic to latex. Then again, if you don't know a makeup artist who can deck you out in head-to-toe blue, just go to a costume store, get a blue bodysuit, and draw on some weird scales. You'll also need a red wig and yellow contacts.
- How to act: You're Magneto's right-hand woman, and you would do anything for him. You can also shapeshift into other people. Again, don't try this at a Halloween [3] party. It would be weird.
Mystique, Jennifer Lawrence Edition
- What to wear: See above.
- How to act: You're stealthy, and you're still figuring out your options — romance- and life-wise.
Wolverine
- What to wear: A white tank top, jeans, and fake claw hands. You'll also need some sideburns to really pull off the look.
- How to act: A little sharp around the edges, but wise beyond your years.
Rogue
- What to wear: You'll need all black-clothing and long brown hair with a white streak down the front.
- How to act: Rogue is a fun one, since she can take on the powers of whoever she touches. Just go around touching people and imitating them. That's a good way to make friends.
Quicksilver
- What to wear: Normal teenage boy clothes, but with a silver duster and some goggles.
- How to act: Run everywhere. Carry a boombox with you.
Nightcrawler
- What to wear: Like Mystique, you're all blue. But instead of scales, you're covered in scarred symbols. You'll also need to rock an emo haircut with blue streaks and some elfin ears.
- How to act: Get ready to perfect your German accent. You're timid, but excited to finally be with your fellow mutants.
Havoc
- What to wear: Jeans and a gray sweatshirt with the sleeves cut off. (You're so cool.)
- How to act: You have the ability to release energy, so just threaten people with that. On the whole, you're an alright guy.
Jubilee
- What to wear: Full. '80s. A yellow jacket, pigtails, and pink glasses.
- How to act: We didn't get to see a lot of Jubilee in Apocalypse, but we do know that she has the power to create plasmoid using her hands. Just go around explaining what plasmoids are.
