After much anticipation and an explosive debut, HBO Max has finally renewed "And Just Like That" [1] for a second season. The news comes over a month after the revival series concluded its first season. "I am delighted and excited to tell more stories about these vibrant, bold characters — played by these powerful, amazing actors," showrunner Michael Patrick King said in a statement. "The fact is, we're all thrilled."
In December, King told Emmy magazine [2] that he felt confident about the show's season two renewal. "As we were working, it always felt like the beginning," he said. "It didn't feel like a beginning, middle and an end. So I think it's possible to keep going — if we have enough good stories." HBO's chief content officer, Casey Bloys, had a similar stance when talking to Vulture [3] about continuing the story. "To tell you the truth, it would be a conversation, because I have no idea," he said that same month. "They kind of came together to do this. They were all really busy and doing other things. So it is certainly a conversation we'll have — for sure. But we haven't decided anything or done anything."
In spite of the cast and crew's optimism for "And Just Like That," the spinoff had a rocky first season, to say the least, sparking outrage from viewers online nearly every week. It started rough with the lack of Samantha (Kim Cattrall) [4] and the killing off of Mr. Big (Chris Noth). Then Noth found himself in a real-life scandal [5] that definitely reflected poorly on the franchise he's so well known for. Not to mention longtime fans' dismay over the handling of Miranda's [6] (Cynthia Nixon [7]), Charlotte's [8] (Kristin Davis [9]), and Stanford's [10] (Willie Garson) storylines.
HBO Max hasn't confirmed season two details regarding the cast, plot, or premiere date yet, but it may be safe to assume that Sarah Jessica Parker [11], Davis, and Nixon will all return. Since season one wrapped with an open-ended conclusion, it's possible newcomers Nicole Ari Parker, Karen Pittman, and Sara Ramirez [12] will also be back for season two.
