Thousands of people gathered at the Los Angeles Staples Center on Monday to celebrate the lives of Kobe and Gianna Bryant [1]. Among them was Beyoncé, who opened the memorial with a beautiful performance of "XO" and "Halo." "I'm here because I love Kobe and this was one of his favorite songs," she told the crowd before singing "XO." Along with the performance, Beyoncé honored the former LA Laker by wearing a gold suit.
Kobe and his 13-year-old daughter died in a helicopter crash [2] with seven other people — Ara Zobayan, Sarah and Payton Chester, Christina Mauser, and Keri, Alyssa, and John Altobelli — in Calabasas, CA, on Jan. 26. The memorial also brought out Kobe's wife, Vanessa [3], along with several of his friends, including Stephen Curry, Gabrielle Union [4], Dwyane Wade, Draymond Green, James Harden, Jennifer Lopez [5], Alex Rodriguez, and Jimmy Kimmel.
