"The Book of Boba Fett [1]" brought back one of our very favorite characters in episode six: Grogu, the adorable little guy formerly known as Baby Yoda [2]. It's a bittersweet moment, as Din Djarin brings him some beskar armor and tries to check on him but isn't able to see him since he's in Jedi training. At the end of the episode, Grogu's Jedi master [3] presents him with a choice: give up all attachments and dedicate himself to Jedi training or walk away from the Jedi to reunite with Din Djarin. What will Grogu choose? [4] While we wait for the reveal, let's look at the clues that may give insight into what decision Grogu will ultimately make.

Signs Grogu Will Choose to Become a Jedi on "The Book of Boba Fett"

Grogu did seem to make his choice already, at least for now, when he went with Luke in the first place. In the season two finale of "The Mandalorian [5]," it's made clear that he wants to go with Luke, but waits for his "dad" Din Djarin to approve and say goodbye. When we catch up with him on "The Book of Boba Fett," Grogu definitely seems to be enjoying his training. Although he's a little naughty at times (and really, isn't that why we love him?), he's going through all the hallmarks of Jedi training and taking it as seriously as he can.

We also learn that he's already further along in his Jedi training than anyone thought. In flashbacks, we see the destruction of the Jedi through Grogu's eyes, suggesting he's not just learning these Jedi skills but remembering things he already started to learn previously. Every time that he's seen experimenting with the Force or hanging out with other Jedi, Grogu seems to enjoy it. He might be a little homesick, but he also might feel like it's worth it.

Signs Grogu Will Choose to Return to Din Djarin on "The Book of Boba Fett"

From a practical standpoint, though, do we really think "The Mandalorian" would write Grogu out of the show permanently? He's arguably the most iconic part of the show, and his relationship with Din Djarin truly is at the heart of it all. It simply doesn't seem plausible that he would agree to forego attachments, as the Jedi require, and leave his father figure behind forever. Besides, imagine the fan uproar (and missed marketing tie-in opportunities) if Grogu were written out of the show!

The timeline of the Star Wars universe [6] also seems to suggest Grogu won't stay a Jedi for long. "The Mandalorian" and "The Book of Boba Fett" are mostly set about 25 years before "The Force Awakens" and "The Last Jedi." By that point, Luke's Jedi training "school" has been destroyed by Kylo Ren, and the very idea of the Jedi has already slipped away into legend. Luke is supposedly the last Jedi remaining in the galaxy, not counting Leia (who never finished her training), Rey (who's barely begun training), and Kylo Ren (who turned to the Dark Side). This would seem to imply that all the other Jedi have either stopped being Jedi and gone into hiding or have died.

We know that Grogu's species lives for a very long time [7] (see: original Yoda), so if he doesn't count as a Jedi 25 years in the future, then he's either dead or no longer a Jedi. Again, given Grogu's popularity, it seems more likely that the writers would simply have him choose not to be a full-fledged Jedi than have him meet a tragic fate.
