DaBaby and Roddy Ricch spoke out against racist police brutality with their chilling performance of "Rockstar" during the 2020 BET Awards [1]. DaBaby opened the virtual performance with his face against the pavement and a police officer's knee on his neck, a heartbreaking reference to the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis [2]. As the camera slowly panned up, DaBaby rapped along to the song's "Black Lives Matter Remix," telling the story of his encounters with police brutality and racial profiling [3] before the video cut to the clouds. DaBaby and Roddy Ricch brought viewers back to Earth as they rapped next to a burning cop car while surrounded by protesters wearing masks and shirts reading "I am George Floyd," "I am Trayvon Martin," and "I am Breonna Taylor [4]." As the video came to a close, the end card read: "In loving memory to all the lives lost to racism and police brutality." Watch the video above.
