Relive the 10 Best Moments From This Year's Grammys

Apr 3 2022 - 9:37pm

The Grammys are always one of our favorite award shows — it's a night full of stunning fashion [1], well-deserved awards [2], and massive performances from music's biggest stars. Where else can you catch a performance by Lil Nas X, followed by one from Chris Stapleton? It's truly a melting pot of genres all in one place, showing viewers how diverse and impressive the music industry truly is. This year's show in Las Vegas was no exception. After being postponed due to COVID, the ceremony went down on Sunday night without a hitch — and without some of the drama that other award shows have seen [3] — and gave us some of our favorite award show moments ever. Here are our 10 favorite moments from the night.

Trevor Noah's "We Don't Talk About Bruno" Joke

When host Trevor Noah sat down with Silk Sonic at the top of the show, he asked Anderson .Paak about his role in Silk Sonic. But when .Paak started to answer, throwing a nod to the other half of his duo, Bruno Mars, Noah cut him off to say, "We don't talk about Bruno," [5] giving a nod to the popular "Encanto" song. Mars himself didn't seem too amused over the joke, and it seemed like a lot of the audience didn't catch on, but we thought it was funny.

V From BTS Sharing a Moment With Olivia Rodrigo

Several of the BTS boys started their "Butter" performance from the audience, and V was posted up beside Olivia Rodrigo [6]. But while the other guys simply sat and smoldered in their seats, V had a flirty *moment* with Rodrigo [7] that we may actually never recover from. Actor V strikes again!

Dua Lipa and Megan Thee Stallion's Matching Looks

Dua Lipa and Megan Thee Stallion took the stage in matching black outfits to re-create the 1998 Grammys moment [8] shared by Mariah Carey [9] and Whitney Houston. That year, both singers wore the same dress on stage, looking incredible, and 2022 gave us an updated version with two of today's hottest singers and rappers.

Joni Mitchell Made a Rare Appearance

Legendary singer Joni Mitchell doesn't make appearances very often anymore, but as this year's MusiCares Person of the Year and winner of best historical album, Mitchell was on hand at tonight's show to remind everyone just how incredible she is.

Brandi Carlile's Performance

Brandi Carlile's performance of her Grammy-nominated song "Right on Time" was one of our favorite of the night. The Grammy winner — who earned five nominations this year alone — was also introduced by Mitchell and Bonnie Raitt, bringing a trio of legendary musicians together in one place.

Billie Eilish's Tribute to Foo Fighters Drummer Taylor Hawkins

When Billie Eilish [10] performed "Happier Than Ever" at tonight's show, she did so wearing a shirt with Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins's face on it [11].

Hawkins sadly died on March 25 [12], and the band chose not to make an appearance at the show as a result. Eilish showed her love to the Foo Fighters, though, in their time of loss.

Lil Nas X's Performance

For the past few months, Lil Nas X went quiet on social media, leaving it a quiet, sad place — but after coming back recently, he continued his return to the public eye with an incredible performance of a few of his hits at the Grammys. He sang a medley of "Dead Right Now" and "Montero (Call Me By Your Name)" before being joined by Jack Harlow for their collab, "Industry Baby."

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Appearance

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a video appearance [13] at the show ahead of John Legend [14]'s performance to bring more awareness about the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. He closed his speech by saying, "Tell the truth about war. On your social networks. On TV. Support us in any way you can. Any. But not silence. And then peace will come. To all our cities, the war is destroying. Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Volnovakha, Mariupol, and others. They are legends already. But I have a dream of them living. And free. Free like you on the Grammy stage."

Megan Thee Stallion and BTS's Reunion

Megan Thee Stallion and BTS had a cute reunion in the audience at the Grammys. The rapper and group collabed last year on a remix of "Butter" [15] and clearly have lots of love for each other.

Doja Cat's Emotional Acceptance Speech With SZA

Not only did Doja Cat make us laugh when she nearly missed accepting her Grammy with SZA for best pop duo/group performance because she was in the bathroom, but she promptly made us tear up when she did. She got emotional on stage, saying she sometimes likes to downplay how hard she works but admitted that it was a "big deal" to win a Grammy [16].
