The Bachelorette: Here's the Scoop on How Tia and Colton Met
Perhaps one of the juiciest story lines on this season of The Bachelorette is the confusing relationship that Colton Underwood had with Tia Booth, a contestant from Arie's season of The Bachelor. Very early on, Colton confessed to Becca that he not only knew Tia, but that the two had a romantic fling before he'd started filming.
This news understandably sent Becca into a tailspin. This is a woman who just came off a broken engagement with someone who left her for another woman — of course she's going to be concerned about it happening again. Why should she set herself up for a similar fate by dating someone who may not be over one of her friends?
Nevertheless, she speaks with both Colton and Tia in depth about their relationship and their intentions, concluding that the two are over each other and that Colton is definitely there for her and nobody else. She gives him a rose and says she's ready to progress in their relationship, which is exactly what happens in the subsequent episodes.
As for how the two actually met, well, the jury is still out as neither have publicly divulged. Thanks to a couple clues, though, we can speculate that they most likely started talking via social media, with Colton reaching out to Tia while The Bachelor was still airing. We think it was Colton reaching out because of some favorable comments he made on Twitter about Tia throughout Arie's season, which indicated he was smitten with her. Given his status as an NFL football player (and that he's Aly Raisman former boyfriend), we can guess that Tia wasn't too bothered to receive any DMs from him.
Also interesting: Raven Gates — one of Tia's friends who was the runner-up on Nick Viall's season — even revealed on a podcast that Tia had been speaking with someone who'd appear on the upcoming season. We speculate that after briefly talking online, the two arranged an in-person meet up, where they shared some smooches. According to Colton, this was only about a week-long fling.
If we get any more information, we'll update you. Meanwhile, let's just say that you can definitely expect some more drama centered upon the Tia and Colton storyline in the weeks to come . . .
