It looked like the third Wonder Woman movie was no longer in DC's plan, but Gal Gadot says that's not true. Speaking to ComicBook.com [1] in an interview published Aug. 2, Gadot, who played Wonder Woman in the first two films as well as other DC projects, said that she will be developing a third Wonder Woman film with new DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran.

"I love portraying Wonder Woman. It's so close to and dear to my heart," she said. "From what I heard from James and from Peter is that we're gonna develop a 'Wonder Woman 3' together."

"Wonder Woman 1984" was released in December 2020, and Variety [2] reported at the time that a third film was in the works from director Patty Jenkins (who also helmed the first Wonder Woman film, released in 2017). However, in December 2022 — shortly after Safran and Gunn took over DC Studios — The Hollywood Reporter [3] reported "Wonder Woman 3" would not be moving forward with Jenkins because it "did not fit" their plans for the universe.

In January, the heads laid out those plans for the future of DC films and TV [4], and it included a TV series for Max set on Wonder Woman's home island, Themyscira, and it did not include another feature film for the iconic character. But Gunn and Safran did leave the door open for some of the previous DC actors — including Gadot, Jason Momoa [5], and Zachary Levi — to return as the heroes they'd previously played.

Gadot most recently played Wonder Woman in a small cameo in June's "The Flash." [6] In addition to the two Wonder Woman films, she also played the role in 2016's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," 2017's "Justice League" (and the 2020 Zack Snyder cut), and March's "Shazam! Fury of the Gods." August's "Blue Beetle" [7] and December's "Aquaman 2" [8] are the last two DC movies that predate Gunn and Safran's tenure. In July, they announced some of the cast for their first film, "Superman: Legacy," [9] including David Corenswet as Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. The movie is written and directed by Gunn.
