The Voice: John Holiday's "Fix You" Performance Brought John Legend (and Us) to Tears

Alright, can The Voice [1] just crown John Holiday the season 19 winner already? 'Cause his semifinals performance pretty much sealed the deal in our book. The Texas native took the stage on Monday night to sing an especially emotional rendition of Coldplay's "Fix You," dedicating the song to judge John Legend [2] and his wife, Chrissy Teigen, following the loss of their unborn son, Jack [3]. While discussing the poignant song choice with Holiday, Legend told him, "Going through what we went through as a family this year . . . there's just a lot of folks out there who are struggling and can use this message."

Holiday began his captivating performance by crooning and simultaneously playing piano before leaving the bench to belt out the rest of the track in the middle of the fog-covered stage. The bridge's lyrics — "tears stream down your face" — certainly foreshadowed how the judges reacted [4] to his angelic vocals. Kelly Clarkson [5] said, "The very last thing you just did broke me in a way that I just shut off." Meanwhile, Legend admitted, "I mean, I'm over here crying." Same, man . . . same. Grab a pack of tissues and watch Holiday's entire performance above.
