Here's Your Guide to the Many Characters of Disney+'s "Moon Knight"

Mar 29 2022 - 11:55am

Following the success of Marvel series like "WandaVision" [1] and "Hawkeye" [2] in 2021, Disney+ is continuing to add to its roster of MCU shows with the new series "Moon Knight," which premieres March 30. Starring Star Wars actor Oscar Isaac [3], "Moon Knight" tells the story of a man named Steven Grant who works at a gift shop and experiences blackouts. Grant soon discovers these blackouts occur due to his dissociative identity disorder. As we saw in the official "Moon Knight" trailer, which dropped on Jan. 17, he's been living a second life as a mercenary named Marc Spector, and as he's coming to terms with his different identities, a mysterious and dangerous character played by Ethan Hawke [4] appears, and Steven and Marc need to stop him.

Here are all the stars who are set to appear in the highly anticipated show.

Oscar Isaac as Moon Knight

Isaac — who's most known for his roles as Poe Dameron in the most recent Star Wars trilogy and Duke Leto Atreides in the 2021 adaptation of "Dune [5]" — portrays Moon Knight, aka Marc Spector/Steven Grant. Isaac's role in the Disney+ series marks his second role in a Marvel film, following his cameo as Miguel O'Hara/Spider-Man 2099 in the 2018 animated film "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse."

During an October 2021 interview with Variety [6], Isaac said playing Moon Knight was so rewarding for him as an actor. "I found so much room to do things that I've never done before and had been curious about and wanting to do," he revealed. "I could not wait to get to set, and it was the biggest workload I've ever had in my career and most challenging; by the sheer amount of stuff we had to do in eight months, and even yet, I couldn't wait to get to set and work."

Ethan Hawke as Arthur Harrow

Hawke will appear on the show as cult leader Arthur Harrow, who encourages Steven to "embrace the chaos" within him. There's not much info about Harrow in the comics, other than the fact that he is a doctor and scientist [7] who only appears in a single issue, "Moon Knight: Fist of Khonshu #2." [8]

May Calamawy as Layla El-Faouly

May Calamawy, who also stars in Hulu's "Ramy," appears as Layla El-Faouly, an archaeologist from Marc's past. In a new teaser [9], she urges Steven to remember their past and their life together, so it seems she was romantically entangled with Marc.

F. Murray Abraham as Khonshu

F. Murray Abraham, who's appeared in movies like "Amadeus" and "The Grand Budapest Hotel," gives voice to Khonshu. Based on the Egyptian lunar god Khonsu, Khonshu is Moon Knight's patron, giving him his healing suit. Series creator Jeremy Slater called Khonshu "imperious and sort of snotty [10] and vengeful," and his relationship with Moon Knight is pretty complicated.

"Moon Knight" isn't Abraham's first time acting alongside Isaac. They both appeared in 2013's "Inside Llewyn Davis."

Gaspard Ulliel as Anton Mogart

Gaspard Ulliel plays Anton Mogart. In the comics, Mogart is a thief who goes by the moniker Midnight Man. Sadly, Ulliel was involved in a fatal skiing accident in January 2022 and died at the age of 37.

Antonia Salib as Taweret

During the "Moon Knight" premiere, Antonia Salib revealed to Variety [11] that she's portraying Taweret. Taweret is an Egyptian goddess, usually associated with fertility and childbirth. She is often portrayed as a hippo. Taweret has never appeared in Marvel Comics before, but obviously the Egyptian gods will play a big role in "Moon Knight."

Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter

Emily VanCamp, who has portrayed the character of Sharon Carter in multiple MCU projects, including "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," "Captain America: Civil War," and "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier," is rumored to return in "Moon Knight." [12] While MCU fans are eager to see her play Sharon again, her involvement in the show hasn't been confirmed yet.
