Every New TV Show Coming to Netflix in 2021 — the Ones We Know About, Anyway

2021 hasn't even started yet, and we're already looking forward to Netflix's upcoming original TV shows for the new year! Even though production on a large number of shows (both at Netflix and elsewhere) has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there are still plenty of new shows that will be arriving on Netflix sooner rather than later. We've got adaptations of books, cozy dramas, and some seriously delightful new docuseries, plus much more! Headspace Guide To Meditation

After the stressful year that 2020 has been, it's no surprise that Netflix would want to get in on the "relaxation" train. The streamer has partnered with meditation app Headspace to create a trio of shows, the first of which is Guide to Meditation, an eight-part animated series that teaches viewers about the science behind meditation and the benefits of the practice, plus guided meditations every episode.

Nicolas Cage's History of Swear Words

If you've ever wondered how the most colorful words came to be, this is the series for you. Nicolas Cage hosts this quirky comedy docuseries that, as the title suggests, decodes the history of swearing. It's not just a linguistic journey: the show is set to discuss the origins, science, and pop culture ripples of cursing through the years.

Lupin

In this French co-production, a man inspired by the story of French gentleman thief Arsène Lupin sets out on a journey to take revenge and get justice for his late father. The show looks like it'll be a little bit meta: a magical-realism-tinged story that is both a retelling of the Lupin story (the character originated in short stories in 1905) and a story that takes place in a universe where the Lupin stories apparently exist too.

Firefly Lane

Based on a novel by Kristin Hannah, Firefly Lane follows two best friends who grow up together and, over the course of more than 30 years, see each other through all the ups and downs of life. Tully (Katherine Heigl) has big ambitions that send her into the world of TV journalism, while Kate (Sarah Chalke) wants a quieter, more domestic life, but fears losing herself in the process.

Netflix is soon to be home to the long-awaited adaptation of Leigh Bardugo's Grishaverse YA novels. In a world full of magic and darkness, a young soldier discovers a power within herself that could save everyone, but only if she can survive the evil plots against her. Elsewhere, a teenage criminal mastermind is hired to put together a band to free a scientist from an impenetrable prison. The cast is set to include Jessie Mei Li, Ben Barnes, Freddy Carter, Amita Suman, Kit Young, and Archie Renaux.
