Normani [1]'s new song, "Fair," is about heartbreak — but if you're currently going through an emotional time, it might be difficult to hear. The 25-year-old singer debuted the single on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon [2]"'s YouTube channel at midnight on March 18. In the gut-wrenching song, Normani sings about how it's not fair she's still upset about a breakup and her ex seems fine. "Is it fair that you moved on? / 'Cause I swear that I haven't / Is it right that you've grown / And I'm still stuck in habits? / 'Cause I'm finding it strange / That you're better than average / Hearts didn't break down the middlе / Tell me how did that happen?" she sings. Oof.
In a candid Instagram post [3], Normani says the song "really captures me in one of my most vulnerable moments." She adds that it makes her "uncomfortable" to share a record unlike anything we've ever heard from her. "Definitely aware that you might feel like you don't know much about me but that's only because it's what makes me feel protected," the singer continues. "I am really forcing myself to let go here. This is huge for me and hopefully this piece of art resonates. Love is beautiful yet so soooo terrifying.".
Normani captured fans with her solo debut "Motivation [4]" in 2019 and once again in 2020 with the sexy "Wild Side [5]" hit featuring Cardi B [6]. In her Instagram post, she noted, "Believe me the uptempo sh*t is coming lmaooo."
We've been waiting with bated breath for Normani's debut album [7], and it seems like we're almost there. While attending the Soul Train Awards back in November 2021, Normani hinted at a summer release, saying, "I wanna tell you that summer is gonna be lit . . . we're doing everything, we're doing it all.
