7 Places You Can Find Phillipa Soo Beyond Hamilton

With the recent release of Hamiltonon Disney+, longtime fans of the 2015 musical and new audiences alike are now able to rewatch the Tony-winning show as many times as they like. Yet, one can only cry their eyes out to "Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story" so many times before they crave seeing the brilliant, original cast of the show do something new (and perhaps less heart-wrenching). While Lin-Manuel Miranda has had obvious appearances in movies and television alike since the massive success of his original musical, there are plenty of other actors with performances you might have missed. Phillipa Soo, aka Eliza, has been in many wonderful projects since her iconic performance on the Richard Rogers stage. Here's where Soo has been since she took her last bow!

Amélie (2017)

In 2017, Soo starred in the titular role of Amélie, a musical adaption of the popular 2001 French movie. A romantic comedy, this show features the dazzling actress in a far more upbeat and whimsical tone. She has an abundance of fun solos in this show like "Sister's Pickle" and "Times Are Hard For Dreamers." While you cannot catch the show on Broadway anymore, the original cast recordings of the songs are available on iTunes, Spotify, and so forth.

Moana (2016)

While Soo's role is small in this ever-popular Disney film about the brave daughter of a Polynesian village chief whose unique relationship with the ocean is able to save her home, expert fans are probably able to hear Soo's beautiful soprano voice in the chorus of "Where You Are." Since Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote the music for the film, it makes sense that Soo and fellow Hamilton costar Chris Jackson found themselves featured in the soundtrack.

The Parisian Woman (2017)

After Amélie, Soo returned to Broadway in the same year with the role of Rebecca in The Parisian Woman. The show revolves around main character Chloe, played by Uma Thurman during Soo's run, who is a witty and entertaining socialite as she details her past, her marriage, politics, and the uncertain future that lies ahead. This show is not a musical, but maybe that's even better because it lets audiences admire Soo's Juilliard acting chops.

Over the Moon (2020)

Set to be released on Netflix sometime in 2020, Over the Moon is an animated film about a young Chinese girl who designs a rocket to get her into space where she believes she will find the goddess of the moon, Chang'e. The movie is a musical, so we can expect a new Soo song as a result since she plays Chang'e herself. With a cute bunny sidekick and plenty of celestial imagery, this movie is sure to sparkle, and hopefully Soo will with it.
