Not only does he lie about having a gambling debt, but he even takes his ring off so that his dad doesn't know he's married.

Dr. K's tragic love story is one we were definitely not prepared for. During an episode completely dedicated to the birth of the triplets, we learn a little bit more about the doctor who delivered them. Having lost his wife a year before, he still finds it hard to move on. Her clothes are still in the closet and he still talks to her at the breakfast table every morning. As if that wasn't devastating enough, we really lost it when he goes to visit her grave, saying that he doesn't know how he can go on living without her.

Even though Kate is skeptical about the weight-loss retreat at first, she eventually comes around to the idea when she takes a therapeutic drum class. The scene gets incredibly intense as she lets out her frustrations, but we also learn that the Big Three were only teenagers when Jack dies.

As they read them aloud on the bathroom floor, flashbacks from their actual wedding play on the screen. Just when we think the two might actually work things out, Rebecca informs Jack that she might be going on tour with her band.

So, when the lights come up, Kevin flees the scene and runs to Randall's office, where he is sitting on the floor, crying. As if that wasn't enough to make you lose it, the show takes things a step further by showing a flashback of teenage Randall having a panic attack over a school paper and Kevin completely ignoring him.

Even though we all knew it would happen eventually, the scene still left us completely devastated. After the father-son duo take a road trip to William's hometown of Memphis, he suddenly takes a bad turn and is rushed to the ER. As William slowly slips away in his hospital bed, Randall comforts him the same way his father, Jack, used to ease his anxiety by putting his hands on his face and telling him to breathe. It was gut-wrenching, to say the least.

After Jack shows up to Rebecca's opening night drunk, the two have a huge falling out when they get home. Even though he argues that they love each other, Rebecca isn't as convinced. As if that wasn't enough to shake you up, in the morning, Rebecca suggests that Jack stay with Miguel for a little while. Jack agrees, but not before telling Rebecca what exactly he loves about her. "You're not just my great love story, Rebecca," he says. "You are my big break, and our love story — I know it may not feel like it right now, but baby, I promise it's just getting started."

Not only is Mandy Moore's performance absolutely heartbreaking as she screams in the car, but Damien Rice's cover of U2's "One," which is about having "one love" and "one life," makes it even more bittersweet.

We finally find out how the Pearson patriarch dies in the devastating episode "Super Bowl Sunday," and it's incredibly heartbreaking. After a faulty slow cooker causes the Pearson family home to go up in flames, Jack manages to save Rebecca, Randall, and Kate from the house fire, but he goes back in to save Kate's dog. Though he manages to make it out unscathed, Jack suffers from second-degree burns and smoke inhalation from the fire. Just when it seems like everything might be OK, Jack passes away in the hospital from a widowmaker heart attack. The scene when Rebecca sees Jack lying lifeless on the bed will stick with us forever.
