Get Ready to Headbang to The Dirt's Hardcore Soundtrack

Steeped in controversy and clad in leather, Mötley Crüe is returning to the public eye with the release of Netflix's The Dirt, a biopic based on the band's 2001 autobiography. If you're in the mood for wild and hard rock, you're in luck. The movie is packed with new songs, in addition to an amalgamation of new wave, psych, and hard rock by other artists from the '80s. Of course, you'll find a selection of Mötley Crüe's greatest hits on The Dirt's soundtrack, including "Looks That Kill," "Shout at the Devil," and "Girls, Girls, Girls."

Still, the official album includes not only the band's greatest hits but also gravelly new songs. The group, after all, promised in September that they would release new music, so they delivered. One of the most prominent new hits is "The Dirt (Est. 1981)," a gritty anthem with lyrics all about excess — which is kind of the band's thing. Motley Crüe's first single since 2015's "All Bad Things," it features Machine Gun Kelly, who plays drummer Tommy Lee in the film. "Ride With the Devil" and "Crash and Burn" evoke nostalgia for the metal-glam group's devil-may-care days, while alluding to the dirt motif several times, nodding, of course, to the movie title. And then there's their hard-rock cover of Madonna's "Like a Virgin," a glitzy pop hit that the hell-raising band approached with a metal twist.

The film itself doesn't exclusively use Mötley Crüe's music. It gives us an eclectic taste of vintage rock, many songs from the '80s, a period informed by everything from ska to dance pop.
