Halloween doesn't need to be all spooks and scares, and Saturday Night Live's long history of sketches around the holiday of the macabre proves just that. The series has aired many classic ghoulish sketches over the years; every Halloween Bill Hader bit is a gem in its own right, whether he's the dapper Vincent Price or the giggly Stefon. We also can't forget Tom Hanks's absurd David S. Pumpkins in "Haunted Elevator" or John Mulaney as a Ghostface dupe in "Chad Horror Movie" either. "Chad Horror Movie" (2019)

This technically didn't air in October, but a Scream spoof is as Halloween as it gets. John Mulaney and Pete Davidson are the odd comedy duo that work surprisingly well, and their synergy makes this hilarious SNLd igital short everything. Davidson portrays the chill, laidback bro Chad, who's the Drew Barrymore character in Scream across Mulaney's Ghostface. But the villain doesn't quite give the scare that he wants because Chad shrugs everything off.

​"A Frightening Tale" (2018)

At a campfire, Seth Meyers tells his friends a scary story about getting a coffee with one of the most frightening creatures out there . . . a 22-year-old recent grad and aspiring filmmaker. It's more or less an absurd monologue with Meyers's signature dry humor, but we're not mad.

"The Pumpkin Patch" (2018)

OK, so this sketch gets a little . . . autumnal with a raunchy twist. Mikey Day (in very attractive dad glasses, might we add) plays a manager at a pumpkin patch who gives his employees (Awkwafina, Beck Bennett, and Kyle Mooney) a stern talk when he finds desecrated pumpkins . . . which may or may not have been given the American Pie treatment.

Kellywise (2017)

Kate McKinnon as Kellyanne Conway as Pennywise the Clown is pure brilliance. Anderson Cooper (Alex Moffat) dons a yellow suit and finds the political adviser lurking in a sewer.

"Haunted Elevator (ft. David S. Pumpkins)" (2016)

Tom Hanks might have been Forrest Gump and Captain Sully Sullenberger, but we'll forever know him as David S. Pumpkins. In this widely beloved sketch, he portrays a man in a pumpkin suit who tries to scare guests on a haunted elevator attraction by goofily dancing with a pair of skeletons.

A group of basic gal pals' plan for a low-key Halloween goes terribly wrong after the girls had a little bit too much to drink. Think something in the vein of Someone Great, Girls Trip, or Ibiza . . . but Halloween-themed.

Two visitors at a graveyard find themselves among singing ghouls who try to give them a good spook. However, the ghosts of Paul and Phil (Jim Carrey and Taran Killam) keep messing up the scary ambiance with their backcountry bro ad-libbing.

"The Merryville Brothers: Haunted Castle" (2012)

The Merryville Brothers wreak havoc on Jay Pharaoh and Vanessa Bayer's date at a haunted castle. In addition to their creepy robotic gestures, the animatronic brothers (Taran Killam, Bill Hader, Tom Hanks, and Bruno Mars) also pull out scary weapons as the couple wait for the ride to be fixed. Hanks and Mars, two men notorious for their feel-good niche in pop culture, will surprisingly give you the heebie-jeebies in this sketch.
