Is Demi Lovato's "15 Minutes" About Max Ehrich? Oh, Most Definitely

Demi Lovato is no stranger when it comes to channeling her emotions into her music, and her latest album is proof. On Friday, the 28-year-old singer released her seventh studio album, Dancing With the Devil... The Art of Starting Over, which explores her struggles with addiction, disordered eating, and her love life. In fact, there's one song in particular that seems totally aimed at her ex-fiancé, Max Ehrich: "15 Minutes."

Lovato and Ehrich began dating in March 2020 and got engaged four months later. However, their relationship was short-lived as they ended up calling it quits that September. Justin Tranter, who is one of the cowriters on Lovato's album, explained to Entertainment Weekly that the song was written during a week-long COVID-safe songwriters camp at a rented mansion in Malibu. "[Bianca 'Blush' Atterberry] had cut a quick scratch vocal, just so we could get the idea down," Tranter said of the track. "Demi heard it, and just started sobbing. It was really emotional, and really something that Demi needed to do and say." Ahead, check out the searing lyrics that have Ehrich's name written all over them.

  • "Changed your colors so fast / Tried to turn my friends into friends of the past / Always puttin' you first, could've been your future / But you didn't even care about me like that." — When Lovato and Ehrich split in September 2020, a source told People , "It was very hurtful to Demi when she realized that Max's intentions weren't genuine." Everything was fun when they were quarantining together, but once Ehrich headed to Atlanta to film a movie, he reportedly changed.
  • "'Cause you were looking for 15 minutes, yeah / And now you got 15 minutes, yeah / Pack your stuff, you can come and get it, yeah." Speaking of his movie, another source told the publication that when Ehrich "shot up in fame" things got "hard." "He got wrapped up in [Hollywood]," the insider added.
  • "Prayin' in Malibu, prayin' in Malibu, how could you, how could you? / Prayin' in Malibu, prayin' in Malibu, I hope it saved you / Prayin' in Malibu, prayin' in Malibu, how could you, how could you? / Crying in Malibu." This is perhaps the most telling lyric that the song is aimed at Ehrich. Following their breakup, Ehrich was photographed crying at the Malibu beach where he proposed to Lovato. Oof!
