Will the Queens Make Another Comeback For Season 2?

QUEENS -

ABC's Queens [1] is back on another brief hiatus before season one resumes on Feb. 8, but we still have yet to hear of any renewal news for the show. As of today, ABC has not confirmed nor canceled Queens for season two, but some fans of the show are crossing their fingers we'll get to see more of what's to come from Nasty Girl Records in the near future.

Episode 11, which aired on Jan. 18, showed the ladies — Naomi (Brandy [2]), Jill (Naturi Naughton [3]), and Valeria (Nadine Velázquez [4]) — on yet another quest to sign more talented artists to their freshly launched label after successfully restoring Zadie's (Remy Ma [5]), aka Lady Z [6], career. With a new business venture on their hands and Brianna (Eve) away in Costa Rica [7] (possibly for good), it's hard to predict what the future of the series holds.

As far as what's up ahead, Queens creator Zahir McGhee teased several storylines that will be explored for the remainder of the season — including the upcoming trial for Jill's jilted ex-husband, Darren (Emerson Brooks); Valeria's marriage with Thomas (Gaius Charles); and "more queens" who will join the group's music family.

"Lady Z isn't the last one. I'll say that," McGhee told Deadline of the queens helping other women artists [9]. "This is going to be a thing and it's not always going to be in the hip hop genre. They want to help women who have been marginalized because of their age or many other reasons, the way they helped themselves."

Of the latest music-based dramas on television, Queens has taken the lead in exploring the realities of the music industry. From misogyny [10] to bad contracts to conservatorships [11], the series isn't holding back when it comes to exposing what happens to artists behind the scenes. Now we can only hope the show will return for a second season to continue shedding light on these issues.
