This Is Us: The Pearsons Step Into a New Chapter in the Emotional Trailer For Season 5

Oct 16 2020 - 6:59am

If you thought the This Is Us [1] season-five premiere [2] wouldn't be emotional, the latest trailers are here to prove you very wrong. On Wednesday, the NBC series dropped the first official trailer, which gives us a peek into the new episodes. As Rebecca says, "I think it's time we start a new chapter," we get glimpses of Randall celebrating his 40th birthday with his wife and kids, Kate and Toby sharing a laugh, and Kevin rubbing Madison's pregnant belly [3]. Of course, the most crucial moment is when Randall and Kevin finally come face to face again after their heated showdown last season. It appears to be the same cabin Kevin and Kate are celebrating their 40th birthday in in the flash-forward [4].

The latest trailer above also shows Randall's family watching what appears to be a protest on television. In the clip, Randall says, "What we're dealing with as a people, it's just so tragic, Beth," to which his wife responds with, "Hey, I'm not going anywhere." We also get a quick flashback of William, teasing that we might learn more about what happened the day he decided to give Randall up.

As previously reported, the new season will tackle the coronavirus outbreak [5] and the Black Lives Matter movement. "I think Randall offers such a unique perspective. Being a Black man raised in a white family, there's a very specific prism through which he sees the world, and I think the writers have captured it brilliantly," Sterling K. Brown told People. "Our first two episodes are outstanding. As long as we, as actors, are able to execute what the writing has provided us an opportunity to do. I think our fans will be very, very, very happy." Be sure to tune into the two-hour premiere in a few weeks!
