Here's a Thorough Breakdown of What Happens in the First 2 Seasons of Top Boy

Dushane and his friend Sully start working their way up the drug hierarchy in the courtyards of the Summerhouse Estate in Hackney, London. Meanwhile, another resident of Summerhouse, 13-year-old Ra'Nell, is forced to move in with his friend Gem when his mother is committed to a hospital after suffering a breakdown. Ra'Nell is put in charge of Gem's mother's marijuana-growing project while Gem is recruited to work for Dushane and Sully. The two drug dealers are then robbed by their rivals, the London Fields Gang, and left in debt and at the mercy of their drug lord boss, Bobby Raikes.

Drug lord Bobby Raikes gives Dushane and Sully just two weeks to retrieve the stash that was taken from them by Kamale and the London Fields Gang. The mission proves harder than they'd hoped, and to keep them on task, Raikes's henchman Greene attacks Dushane's brother Chris. Dushane and Sully decide to kidnap Kamale's cousin Shaun and to hold him ransom, but they end up accidentally killing the man. Elsewhere, Ra'Nell continues to help Gem's mother, Heather, with her illegal crops.

Sully suspects that an informant in their group is in league with the London Fields Gang and names Ra'Nell's friend Gem as the traitor. He sends Dris to kill the boy's dog and send him into hiding. Dushane and Sully manage to track down Kamale and torture him for information, and though he finally reveals the hiding spot, they end up killing him anyway. Dushane and Sully are able to track the missing drugs to an empty tire depot, where they find their boss, Lee Greene, who works under Raikes, has beat them to the spot. The men kill Greene, realizing that he is the snitch, and a full-scale gang war breaks out between their crew and Kamale's.

After Ra'Nell approaches Dushane with Heather's marijuana and shows him a sample of its quality, Ra'Nell's mother (who found out about his involvement from Heather) asks her estranged husband's friend, Leon, to look out after Ra'Nell. Leon tries to prevent Sully from stealing the marijuana from Ra'Nell, but Leon ends up getting killed by Sully instead. Raikes suggests to Dushane that they sell out Sully as a liability, since he is still in possession of a gun that has killed three people, but Dushane refuses. Rather than give up his friend, Dushane kills Raikes and frames it as suicide. With Raikes out of the way, Dushane is now the new kingpin of Summerhouse Estate.

A year after Dushane has assumed the position of Top Boy, police recover the body of Kamale. Dushane is brought in for questioning, but he is released soon after with the help of a lawyer. He also is no longer in business with Sully and instead has a new right-hand man named Mike. Meanwhile, Gem asks Ra'Nell for help with Heather's dying marijuana plants, which have gotten their family into debt.

Gem starts drug running for Vincent, to whom his family owns money. Elsewhere, one of Dushane's drug runners, Michael, is caught shoplifting with drugs on his person, and he comes clean about Kamale's murder, though Michael doesn't reveal anything to Dushane once he is released. Mike and Sully are later recruited by a hitman to take down Sully's cousin Jermaine, but rather than killing Jermaine, Sully holds him hostage and demands money, which Jermaine tries to get from his brother, Rafe. Meanwhile, Dushane learns that he's had drugs stolen from him by an Albanian gang.

Police take Kamale's girlfriend into custody, and Dushane has her son kidnapped to keep her from talking. Rafe launches an attack on Sully's flat to rescue his brother, killing Mike in the process. Sully goes to Dushane seeking protection from Rafe, and Dushane agrees to help him if Sully returns the favor by helping him recover the drugs from the Albanians. Elsewhere, Gem's latest drug delivery goes awry and the drugs are stolen, and though Ra'Nell attempts to defend his friend from Vincent, he is instead beat up himself.

Ra'Nell's mom, Lisa, goes to Dushane and asks him for help dealing with Vincent. However, before Dushane can take action, Gem's father attacks Vincent instead. He and Gem move to Ramsgate while Lisa makes plans to move away with Ra'Nell as well. Sully and Dushane invade the Albanians' lair and recover their drugs, but in the process, the Albanians find out where Dushane lives. Michael, who's being held at Dushane's apartment because Dushane discovered that he ratted him out, is there when the Albanians arrive. Knowing he's as good as dead anyway, Michael warns Dushane not to come into the apartment when he sees him approaching, and the Albanians throw Michael from the balcony as Dushane runs.
