The Xenarios-Chialtas family of Ontario, Canada has something amazing to celebrate this Valentine's Day. Their 12-week-old son, George, has come through a miraculous heart transplant.
George was born via emergency C-section with cardiomyopathy, a severely weakened heart. It meant he was not able to go home with his family unless he was able to receive a new heart. Another family's heartbreak made an infant heart available, and the surgery was successful. George now has every hope of a long, healthy life.
George's mother, Helen Chialtas, says that in the midst of her gratitude, "I just kept thinking about [the organ donor infant's mother] and what pain she was going through now that her baby has passed. She was strong enough that she wanted to give other children life and she donated these organs."
