Ayesha Curry on How to Parent When Your Kid Goes Viral

Jun 10 2015 - 12:16pm

When little 2-year-old Riley Curry stole the show at her dad's postgame press conference [1], we couldn't get enough of her attention-hogging antics. Playing peekaboo with the press [2]? Hysterical! Rapping some Drake into the microphone? More, please!

But everyone wasn't quite as amused as we were. As Riley's antics went viral, some reporters took issue with the tot's presence in the press room, calling it "unprofessional" and "distracting." But her mom isn't letting the critics get to her. In an article appearing on Time.com [3], Ayesha Curry writes, "I thought it was beautiful for him not to push his daddy duties to the bottom of the list just because all eyes were on him." She goes on to write:

I feel that the biggest thing you can do, as a parent, is to engage. You can never be too busy for your child. There should always be time for a bedtime story, impromptu playtime, or a quick game of hide-and-seek — or "find me," as Riley calls it. These moments with your child should never get pushed to the bottom of the list. In these moments we set the foundation for the kind of relationship we want to have with our children as they grow.
