Upon giving birth to a nine-pound baby on April 27, a new mom was surprised to find her chosen birth control method hiding among her placenta. In a hysterical birth announcement [2] that has since gone viral, Lucy Hellein shared a staged shot of her newborn gripping her IUD. She hashtagged the photo, "Mirena fail!"

Although intrauterine devices — or IUDs, as they're commonly called — are 99 percent effective [3] at preventing pregnancies, Lucy seems to have been a part of that rare 1 percent group. She noted her baby's "strength" in one of her hashtags which read, "Little Jedi."
