The Best Places to Shop For Boys

Jul 18 2017 - 2:00pm

When I pictured myself as a parent, I'm a bit ashamed to say that it was always as the mom to a little girl. Visions of braids, twee dresses, and chic little shoes vanished when the ultrasound technician told me I was going to have a boy. Of course it was a momentary disappointment and I obviously adore my son with every inch of my body, but that doesn't mean I can't wish for better clothing options for him. The boys' section in most stores is a fraction of the size of the girls' side, and if there are any options in his size, all the stylish clothes are gone and replaced with character shirts that he doesn't care about.

It seems like cute options for girls are boundless, and finding an Instagramable outfit [1] for them is a cinch. Thankfully, there are a few places out there and online that really understand that parents of boys still want them to look put together and hip.

Monica + Andy

I was given a couple Monica + Andy [3] onesies when my son was born and I made him wear them so much that it got a little ridiculous. I loved how luxuriously soft they were, and how despite literally hundreds of washes they still retained their shape and color.

Target

A hands down favorite, and not just for the stylish housewares, Target [4] has really hit the bullseye with creating affordable clothes for boys. Since getting launched last year, Cat & Jack has continued its mission of creating clothes that children actually want to wear. By having kids involved in the designing process, it's practically guaranteed that its clothes will be the one that your strong-willed tyke will demand to wear over and over again.

Zara

A classic staple for all the cool girls, Zara [5] has turned its powerhouse brand into a beacon of hope for all parents of boys. From supersoft sweaters and actually warm jackets to crisp button-downs, parents will love the stylish options at an affordable price.

Primary Clothes

Not every parent wants to swaddle their brood in sequins, characters, and obnoxiously large logos. Primary Clothes [6] is the ideal brand for parents who want quality staples that their kids can actually play in. Featured exclusively of colorful basics, children and adults alike will adore the bright colors and supersoft materials. If you're looking for another reason to fall in love, bulk purchasing discounts, free shipping, and the fact that nothing is over $25 should seal the deal.

Old Navy

Old Navy [7] is one of those ubiquitous stores that nearly everyone has heard of. Just because it's everywhere doesn't mean it shouldn't be considered when shopping for stylish boys' clothes. With frequent discount options and amazing sales, Old Navy remains a one-stop shop for all of your son's clothing needs.

Uniqlo

Gender neutral, price conscious, and oh so stylish, Uniqlo [8] is an amazing option. Part of what makes it exceptional is its unique character t-shirts that are exclusive to the brand. Your son will love rocking its new Thomas & Friends shirt and you can have some money leftover for a new jumpsuit for yourself.

J.Crew

Sometimes kids need to step out of their comfy basics and into something a little more formal. To have your son channel his inner Prince George, J.Crew [9] remains that go to place for crisp and stylish options. Built to last, it's worth spending a little extra to know that your kid will look good as long as he doesn't outgrow it.

Smallable

So adorable you may actually squee with delight, Smallable [10] has created a brand that is somehow chic and still classic. The baby clothes feature unique patterns like beetles and panthers, and the older kids' clothes retain a sense of whimsy and sophistication.

Slyfox Threads

Since the only thing most little kids want to wear is a comfy t-shirt, it might as well be one from Slyfox Threads [11]. Its graphic tees will stand out on the playground for their fun fonts, sense of humor, and fantastic artwork.
