In 2016, Matt Coyne was a new dad to a then 6-month-old Charlie, and learned very quickly that life with a little human can be a bit difficult to navigate — especially if you want to go abroad on vacation. In a hilarious post to his Facebook page [1], Man vs Baby, Coyne listed the things he learned after taking Charlie on vacation — borderline disastrous things that are so completely relatable [2] they had us in tears.
We had a checklist for what to pack, it had just one item on it: "everything."
When airlines say they have "baby changing facilities" what they actually mean is: "a shelf."
If your baby will sit quietly during the flight that's great. If they will sleep, even better. If, like Charlie, your little one likes to "stand" . . . You can look forward to what feels like a midget river-dancing on your bollocks for the next four hours.
Although the humor in the post comes from a place of frustration that most parents can empathize with, Coyne says his main advice to parents considering taking their child on vacation [3] is to go. "For all its pissy little challenges, to spend time together away from our newly destroyed home was incredibly special."
