Disney's Lion King Plushies Aren't Just Cute — They Also Help to Save the Lives of Lions IRL

Jul 22 2019 - 8:40am

Be prepared to break out your wallet, because in honor of the upcoming live-action Lion King reboot [1], Disney [2] has partnered up with the Wildlife Conservation Network [3] to create two character-inspired plush toys — and I just can't wait to get my hands on them!

Modeled after the film's main protagonists, Simba and Nala, each of the 40,000 special-edition plush dolls represents one of the lions whose future Disney and the Lion Recovery Fund [4] are working to save. For every doll sold, Disney will donate $5 to the Lion Recovery Fund, which aims to raise awareness about the crisis lions are facing, help advance lion conservation across Africa, and double the number of lions in the wild by 2050.

The brightly patterned plush toys are currently available at Mombasa, Island Mercantile, and Discovery Trading Company at Disney's Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World [5] and at Seaside Souvenirs in Disney's California Adventure park. Starting on July 1, they can also be found at World of Disney, Elias & Co., and Bazaar at Disneyland Resort and in other locations across the Walt Disney World Resort.

If you can't wait until your next Disney trip, scroll ahead to shop the Simba and Nala [6] plushies on the Disney website and create a mini lion pride of your very own.
