Disney's Doc McStuffins Just Featured a 2-Mom Family — Because Love Is Freakin' Love

Disney Channel's Doc McStuffins is known for delivering powerful storylines that expose kiddos to different types of families outside the "norm." Last year, we couldn't help but applaud the show for including an entire storyline about adoption [1], and now the animated children's series is giving us another reason to cheer — and subsequently make our kids hop on the McStuffins bandwagon.

The Disney series recently aired an episode featuring a family with two moms, thus teaching the kids who watch it a fact we've known to be true all along: love is love. Titled "The Emergency Plan [2]," the story focuses on two mother dolls that separate from their kids after a dragon causes an earthquake, and it stresses the importance of making a backup plan for when emergencies occur.

The same-sex couple were voiced over by Wanda Sykes and Portia de Rossi [4], two openly gay actresses. In an interview shared by GLAAD [5], a nonprofit that promotes LGBTQ+ equality in the media industry, Sykes opened up about the importance of celebrating same-sex couples on screen, especially for her 8-year-old twins, Lucas Claude and Olivia Lou.

"With this episode, they see a family that looks like our family," the comedian said. "We're two moms . . . it's going to be very exciting for [my kids] to see our family represented." Now that's something to celebrate! See what else Sykes has to say about Doc's latest adventure in the video interview clip above.
