Brilliant! Dyslexia-Friendly Hogwarts Books Exist So More People Can Experience the Magic

Pop on over to the Hogwarts library and you just might find a little extra magic on the shelves this year. On March 6, Pottermore [1] announced that Bloomsbury is making the wizarding world a little more accessible with large-print, dyslexia-friendly versions of Hogwarts Library books — and all it took was a little engorgio spell! Currently available exclusively in the UK [2], each of the three Harry Potter [3] companion books — Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them [4], Quidditch Through the Ages [5], and The Tales of Beedle the Bard [6] — have been printed with enlarged fonts on tinted paper for glare reduction and maximum contrast. And just look at that gorgeous cover art! Hermione Granger would want all of these books in her collection ASAP.

Each of the books, which have been approved by the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), includes clear captions and detailed descriptions alongside every illustration — plus some enchanting Harry Potter [7]-themed navigational aids. (Books that sound this magical must be the work of Albus Dumbledore himself.) "We hope that these projects will encourage other publishers to follow in their footsteps and expand the market of accessible and inclusive books," said a spokesperson from the RNIB on Bloomsbury's website [8].

In an effort to continue sharing the magic of the wizarding world with those who have visual impairments and learning disabilities, Bloomsbury plans to continue production of similar Harry Potter editions in the future, but details have yet to be announced. We can only hope these helpful copies become available in the US soon, so that even more witches and wizards can experience the wonders of the wizarding world.
