Ellen DeGeneres [1] just successfully executed her biggest, most generous giveaway ever for Spain Elementary Middle School in Detroit — and it has us in tears. The school, which is led by Principal Ronald Alexander, has been facing a number of issues — broken technology, no heating, a roof that's collapsing — but the staff have been keeping their spirits up and doing whatever they need to do to make sure that the students are learning and feel loved. Ellen decided that even though they're doing their best, she wanted to step in and help them with this mission.
In the clip, Ellen video-chats with some of the staff — while the students cheer and jump around in the background — and surprises them with $100 Visa gift cards from Lowe's. But in true Ellen fashion, there is so much more: $50,000 in technology — iPads and computers for the classrooms — and $200,000 to help repair things around the school. Then, as if that isn't generous enough, Justin Bieber pops out of a box and says he's going to donate a dollar per every ticket sold for his next Michigan show to them, and then Lowe's comes out of the woodwork again to donate an additional $250,000 for various expenses and the school's arts program.
