Facebook and Apple Cover Egg Freezing For Employees

Oct 14 2014 - 9:44am

Facebook and Apple are trying to make it possible for their female employees to have it all. The two tech giants recently announced that employees' medical benefits will now cover egg freezing [1], making them the first companies to offer the coverage for nonmedical reasons. Facebook recently started covering the process, while Apple will begin in January 2015. Both companies will provide up to $20,000 of coverage, which is enough for two rounds of freezing.

Not only is this amazing news for female employees — especially those who put their family dreams on hold for work — but it is a smart marketing strategy. With so many tech companies trying to attract more female employees, this medical benefit gives Facebook and Apple a leg up on the competition. Not to mention it adds to their already-long lists of family-related perks. Facebook, for example, provides new parents with $4,000 in "baby cash," while Apple allows 14 weeks of maternity leave and six weeks of paternity leave. So if you're a mom-to-be in the market for a new job, we may have the place for you.
