It's never too early to start planning air-conditioned escapes to the movie theater in preparation for the hot months, and lucky for all of us, the movies coming out for families this Summer actually look amazing. From second and third installments of movies your kids (and you!) already love to a new flick that is sure to become part of the usual rotation at home after its release, there's a movie or three on this list you'll want to mark on your family's calendar right now.

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie

What it’s about: Based on the first book of the Captain Underpants series by Dav Pilkey about two BFF pranksters, this movie will delve into Captain Underpants's origin (spoiler alert: he's their mean school principal hypnotized into thinking he's a superhero!)

Who’s in it: Jordan Peele [2], Nick Kroll, Kristen Schaal, Kevin Hart, and Ed Helms all lend their voices to this LOL-worthy flick.

The Emoji Movie

What it’s about: Gene, the "meh" emoji, sets out on a journey to become a more multiexpressional, normal emoji.

Who’s in it: The voices of T.J. Miller, Patrick Stewart, James Corden, Maya Rudolph, Rob Riggle, and more are in this silly one.

Release date: July 28, 2017

The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature

What it’s about: Following directly after the first film's end, in this one, Surly and his fellow furry friends are on a mission to stop the mayor from destroying the park they call home to turn it into an amusement park.

Who’s in it: Will Arnett [3], Katherine Heigl [4], Maya Rudolph, and Jackie Chan all voice adorable animated animals.

Release date: Aug. 11, 2017

LEAP!

What it’s about: LEAP! follows the story of an 11-year-old orphan girl named Félicie whose dream is to become a dancer in Paris. Félicie and her best friend Victor, who wants to be an inventor, leave the orphanage they live at to pursue their dreams in France. Once there, Félicie will have to fight to succeed against her ruthless dance classmates and channel her talents and passions to rise above the rest.

Who’s in it: Elle Fanning, Maddie Ziegler, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Nat Wolff lend their voices to this sweet animated film.
