A Girl Wrote Into Zara to Ask to Model Its Boys' Clothes a Month Ago, and Ahem, We're Waiting

A 7-year-old girl from London is our newest source of inspiration when it comes to using our voices to speak up for what we want, no matter what society thinks. Eliza Brichto, who hasn't worn "typical" girls' clothes since she was about 3 years old, loves Zara's boys' section, especially its sweatshirts, so she wrote a letter to the clothing company to ask to be a model for the boys' clothes, and sent it along with a few pictures of herself modeling them.

"She has surprised us all, it's quite impressive really," her mom, Jess, told POPSUGAR of Eliza's initiative. Her daughter feels more confident about herself in "typical" boys' clothes, so when she discovered her love for Zara, she asked her mom why there weren't any girls modeling those clothes. "I've always been quite girly myself, so I didn't really get it, I thought she was just joking," Jess said. "But then when she came to me with the letter I thought, 'Actually, she's quite serious about this, I should send it.'"

Although Jess admits to being conventionally girly herself, she did acknowledge how out-of-date it is for clothing to have gender labels on them, rather than be neutral and for all children. "It does seem a little bit old fashioned that clothes are labeled for boys and girls," she said. "And sometimes, if her big brother's friends come around and one of them is wearing the same sweatshirt as her — because you've seen, she's a bit obsessed with the whole Zara boys' range — they often blush and get a bit embarrassed. But I think if there were no labels, maybe that wouldn't happen."

As for the letter, Jess says that she knows the envelope was signed for about a month ago. The handwritten note (photo below) reads:

My name is Eliza and I'm 7-years-old. I'm writing to you because I would like to be a model for Zara Boys. You might think that it's quite weird that a girl wears boys' clothes but anyway let me tell you the story! When I was 4 I looked at Zara Girls and I wasn't really sure about the girls' clothes but then I had a little look at the boys' clothes and I loved them. Now the only place I go clothes shopping is Zara Boys. I'm your number one fan, please accept my offer for me being a model for Zara Boys.

"It's a bit of a shame really," Jess said, about not hearing back from Zara as of yet. Adding: "I'm not expecting in any way that they would suddenly recruit her as a Zara boys' model . . . which is completely understandable, but it would be lovely if they could just write to her and say that it's really exciting that she likes the boys' range of clothes, and if they're doing anything in the future to change it [to be more gender neutral]. Just so that she got something, because she's such a huge fan and to get nothing at all would be a little bit disappointing. We'll see."

Despite not hearing back from Zara as of yet, Eliza has received so much positive feedback already from parents all around the world. Jess told us: "What's been lovely is the amount of messages I've received from around the world just from parents who have got boys and girls — you know, boys who like to wear leggings and dress up in dresses — and just how refreshing it is to see a little girl speak out. And it's just really cute, she's been getting a lot of good attention."

And now, we wait. Your move, Zara.
