The Crazy Reason These Identical Twins Will Be Born 4 Months Apart

Can you imagine giving birth to one baby while another is still in the womb — for another four months?

This is the reality for mother Holli Gorveatt, who gave birth to baby Link in September and is waiting to welcome his identical twin brother, Logan, in January. Because of a rare condition called twin-twin transfusion syndrome, the two babies shared one placenta in the womb — a dangerous abnormality that causes one baby to be overstuffed with blood while the other is deprived and weak. To save the twins' lives, the doctor had to separate their blood vessels, and one baby had to be born while the other stayed in the womb.

"It's very surreal to be postpartum and prepartum," Holli told Komo News [1].

While the parents did get to meet baby Link long before Logan, they can't even hold him because he's so fragile — he was born at just 1 pound 2 ounces.

Link is doing well under the care of the doctor, though — the family has started a GoFundMe page [2] to help with medical costs — and Holli is patiently waiting while baby number two grows inside her. "Logan's good. He's growing a lot and he's kicking; he can move around, and he was stuck before," she said. Here's hoping all goes well for the family and the second twin's birth goes smoothly at the beginning of the New Year.

If baby Logan holds out until January, the family plans on contacting the Guinness Book of World Records — what a story these brothers will have!
