Arguably one of the most educational video games [1] out there, Minecraft aids in fostering creativity, math and social skills, goal setting, and more — so much so that Mojang has created an Education Edition [2] of the game to bring its pixelated worlds into the classroom.

If you have a child, chances are their nose is constantly buried in this game, with its odd terms [3] and funny characters [4], but it's not the type of video game you need to worry about them playing too much. It's a game that engages them in a more academic way no matter how they play and usually without them realizing that they're learning.

"I've never seen a more empowering tool for kids to use to create," commented Steve Isaacs [5], a video game designer and developer. "It's refreshing to see that kids want to be creative, kids want to have this clean, open slate to do whatever they dream. . . . That doesn't happen in classrooms normally."
