Jessica and Kevin Mahoney had struggled with fertility issues for a while [3], but when she finally got pregnant with their second child after so much loss, they knew they had to do something special for a pregnancy photo shoot. Jessica had suffered six miscarriages following the birth of their son Corbin and wanted the pregnancy photos to represent every ounce of hope that came with their rainbow baby.

Kevin enlisted photographer JoAnn Marrero [4] to take the photos, and after back-and-forth communication, they decided they were going to form an actual rainbow using colorful smoke bombs. After suffering so much loss, this beautiful photo shoot was the perfect way for Jessica to show how important it is to stay hopeful and see the rainbow after the dark, cloud-filled days.

"A rainbow baby is the understanding that the beauty of a rainbow does not negate the ravage of the storm. When a rainbow appears, it does not mean the storm never happened or the family is still not dealing with its aftermath. What it means is that something beautiful and full of light has appeared in the midst of the darkness and clouds," Marrero wrote on her Facebook page From Labor to Love [5].
