This Woman Perfectly Depicts What a "Mommy Mental Breakdown" Looks Like — and She Makes a Point

May 1 2018 - 5:40am

😭🙏 REAL LIFE: This is what a mommy mental breakdown looks like...😔 🤮 I’m so sick of people just showing the perfect side of parenthood on social media, and today was one of the worst days I’ve had as a mom. I’m tired. Mentally and emotionally drained. Feeling like a failure of a mom. Feeling beyond clueless as to why my child has the world’s worst tantrums for no reason. Feeling guilty for yelling at him and even more guilty for wanting to crawl in a hole and stay there. Etc. ☝️ THIS is real life. THIS is the dark side of parenting they don’t tell you about in books. We are NOT perfect. Neither are our kids. We are human. We break down. We cry. We get frustrated. We lose our tempers. We need help. And at the end of the day, we are doing THE BEST WE KNOW HOW. 💙 Feel free to share this with a new Mom or a Mom who feels like she’s losing her everloving mind. You’re not alone, and NONE of us have it together. #MomFail #DoingTheBestICan #PrayersWelcomed

Sarah Van Sickle, a mother from Tennessee, knows how unrealistic it is for women to act like everything is picture perfect all the damn time. She decided to show exactly how daunting raising a toddler can be after a string of especially stressful, tantrum-filled days [2] that nearly put her over the edge. In a now-viral Facebook video [3], Sarah lays out exactly why there's no use pretending everything is hunky dory all the time when your kid has been "screaming bloody murder for the last 40 minutes" and "has bruises on his head" from bashing it against the ground.

She posted the video, which has amassed 89,363 shares and more than 46,000 "likes," alongside an emotional caption that will hit home with any parent who's feeling, well, exhausted.

"I'm so sick of people just showing the perfect side of parenthood [5] on social media, and today was one of the worst days I've had as a mom," she wrote, adding: "I'm tired. Mentally and emotionally drained. Feeling like a failure of a mom. Feeling beyond clueless as to why my child has the world's worst tantrums for no reason. Feeling guilty for yelling at him and even more guilty for wanting to crawl into a hole and stay there."

She added that the day-long meltdowns are far more realistic than the flawless social media posts moms are regularly bombarded with on social media.
