Weeks After Starting Her New Job, 1 Young Nanny Gave This Toddler a Priceless Gift

Even though 16-month-old Talia isn't Kiersten Miles' child, learning about the baby's life-threatening condition [1] was still extremely difficult for her.

Last year, Talia's parents, George and Farra Rosko, discovered that their child was suffering from biliary atresia, which is a serious liver disease, and prepared themselves for a long wait on the organ donation list [2]. However, instead of enduring months or years of uncertainty, Talia's donation came from an unexpected source in a matter of weeks.

When 22-year-old Kiersten joined the New Jersey family as their nanny, she quickly began researching the girl's life-threatening condition. Although she had just started this new job [3], the young woman offered to donate part of her own liver to help the child she was caring for.

"I believe I was meant to meet the Roskos. Even though I had only known Talia for three weeks when I decided I wanted to see if I was [a] match, I knew I couldn't do nothing," Kiersten told Babble. "I knew I was a blood match and after doing research the rest of the process and the surgery didn't seem that intense . . . it just seemed and still seems like such a small sacrifice compared to saving a life."

On the day of the surgeries, doctors replaced Talia's liver with a piece of her nanny's organ with the hope that it will continue to grow in the child's body. "When I finally got to see Talia, I completely forgot about the discomfort and pain I had recently felt and was immediately reminded why I donated," Kiersten said.
