Families are formed in the most miraculous ways. After suffering from infertility for five years, Lauren and Jake adopted their eldest child, a beautiful boy they named Edison. Six months later, as luck would have it, Lauren learned she was pregnant. It was considered a miracle — something she never thought would happen. In the span of 15 months, the family would go from heartache to hearts overflowing with happiness and love. From a family of two to a family of four.
To capture the moment they became a complete family, Lauren and Jake called on San Clemente, CA, photographer Kirsten Tyrrel [1] to photograph the delivery. As with the rest of their story, the delivery quickly took an unexpected route as a routine epidural didn't take and Lauren was forced to have a natural birth.
"Looking at the photos of Lauren in such pain and also seeing her pain reflected on her sister and husband's faces still makes me cry," Kirsten said [2]. "I was holding back my sympathetic tears through the whole thing and desperately wanted to do anything to make her suffering stop. I felt so traitorous holding my camera and not doing anything for her!"
But Lauren did it and welcomed baby Everett into the world to make Edison a big brother and make their family whole. See the beautiful photos of Everett's birth and the raw emotions on Lauren, Jake, and their families' faces in the following photos.
