When Ledelldra Brooks made an unplanned visit to her disabled daughter's first-grade classroom, the California mom discovered a scene that shocked her. Her little girl was being kept in a cage [1]. Brooks found her 7-year-old daughter wearing a dirty diaper inside of a contraption made of a toddler gate and a crib gate that were attached to the classroom's bookshelves.

The (understandably) irate mother called the police and filed a legal claim against the teacher. "I honestly want the public to know what's going on behind special education, what went on in my daughter's class," Brooks told The Fresno Bee. Teacher's aides told the police that the pen was used whenever students' behavior was out of control or they were posing a threat to themselves or classmates.

We can only hope that justice is served and that the Brooks family finds a suitable alternative for their daughter's future schooling.
