A 6-year-old girl living with acute lymphoblastic leukemia just saved an entire city. In addition to battling cancer, young Mable battled villains in her town of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, yesterday — all as part of an elaborate plan orchestrated by the Children's Wish Foundation to make her dream of being a superhero come true.
Mable has been a longtime Spider-Man fan — she would read the comic books while undergoing treatment after her diagnosis in 2013 — so it only made sense that she took on her alter ego, the web-slinging Spider-Mable, for an epic, daylong mission to find and save Edmonton Oilers hockey captain Andrew Ference.
The crusade, similar to one featuring an adorable Batkid taking over San Francisco [1], was first covered by local media but soon began trending on Twitter [2]. While her story quickly canvassed the globe, the children's foundation took her all around the city, from the mall to the Galaxyland amusement park to the local zoo where her final display of heroism took place in a climactic silly-string battle.
But did she save the day? We'll let you scroll through the unbelievably inspiring — and hilarious! — photos and videos ahead to find out.
