Pets are part of the family, and losing a cherished member of your pack can be absolutely devastating. It's hard to cope with the death of a pet [1], especially when it was a member of your household for many years. When Scottish Twitter user Lucie Dunne and her family had to put down their dog, her mom took the loss especially hard. As a teacher, Mrs. Dunne was stressing about going back to the classroom after the emotional loss, probably knowing she'd have to field the awkward questions and comments [2] that kids are so prone to tossing out. But one thoughtful child in her class knew the perfect way to comfort his grieving teacher — with a poem.
Mum's been so upset about the dog being put to sleep and stressing about having to go back into school today, and she got this from a wee boy in her class 😭😭😭 pic.twitter.com/2qslb572CX [3]

Written in pencil, a student gave the teacher a note labeled: "To Mrs. Dunne, sorry if you don't like it or it makes you emotional." Inside the note was a poem about Mrs. Dunne's dearly departed dog, written in a way that spells his name, Charlie, with the first letter of every line. The student, Callum, wrote about his teacher's dog being:
- Cheeky
- Happy
- Adorable
- Relative
- Lucky
- Incredible
- Energetic
And finished off with the sweetest sentiment of all: "But most of all, I know your dog was special and your dog is in a better place and looking over you." Cue the tears! We're sure that even though she is grieving, the teacher's heart was warmed by her student's sweet gesture — we know ours were.
