Alanis Morissette, the singer behind some of our favorite songs from the '90s and '00s, is officially a mom of three [2]! While announcing the news via Instagram [3] on Aug. 12, the 45-year-old vocalist and songwriter shared her son's name: Winter Mercy Morissette-Treadway.

Although Alanis hasn't come out directly to share the meaning behind her son's name, she's always had a thing for uncommon names! She named her oldest son Ever Imre and went with a unique moniker for her daughter, Onyx Solace, as well. According to Baby Name Wizard, Winter can mean "bringing of renewal" [4] or the "rebirth of Spring." Her son's middle name, Mercy, has historically meant "compassion, forgiveness, or pity." [5] And believe it or not, Alanis actually recorded a song with the very same title in 1999 for Jonathan Elias's album The Prayer Circle. While we can't definitively say the song played a role in her baby's middle name choice, it's one heck of a coincidence!
