An Inside Look at What Disney Cruises' Kids Clubs Are Like

Dec 15 2016 - 2:21pm

One of the most magical aspects of a Disney cruise for both parents and children [1] is the unique "kids clubs." These invigorating and interactive spaces offer a combination of character-led activities, high-tech features, and separate Disney worlds that engage kids of all ages throughout the entire trip [2]. Although some parents might be curious about if these different age-specific areas will actually entertain their kids, it's easy to see that the answer is most likely yes.

The Disney Oceaneer Club on the Disney Wonder recently received a major upgrade, and just like its counterparts on the rest of Disney's fleet, this high-tech wonderland for kids 3 to 12 years old connects to the Oceaneer Lab. This gives kids the secure freedom to explore the new areas either on their own or with counselors depending on their interests. For the older crew, tweens can hang out at the surprisingly cool Edge for both day and night entertainment away from their parents. Check out more exciting details ahead!

The Oceaneer Club

This interactive space for kids 3 to 12 years old is offered on every ship with a varying activities and enhancements. Although there is an age recommendation for the Oceaneer Club, participation in the different options is based on a child’s maturity and interest so siblings and friends have the opportunity to partake together if they choose. What's amazing about this space is that it brings together different Disney worlds into one area that allows kids to go from hanging out with superheroes to going on a Frozen adventure depending on which way they turn.

The Marvel Superhero academy is a new addition to the Oceaneer Club that brings the Marvel universe to life for young fans. This interactive space is exclusive to the Disney Wonder and allows kiddos to find their superhero within as beloved characters work with them on teamwork and problem solving.

The training academy's high-tech command post is just one offshoot of the Oceaneer Club and offers high-tech attractions that allow for superheroes to inspire kids both in person and through a digital display.

Beloved Disney Junior characters are ready for a memorable time at Club Disney portion of the Oceaneer Club where storytelling and interactive games await. Whether you're dancing with Princess Sofia or diagnosing and treating stuffed animals with Doc McStuffins, kiddos enjoy the unforgettable time with their favorite Disney Junior friends.

In a separate part of the Oceaneer club is the Frozen Adventures for interactive fun with Elsa and the gang. Some of the Winter-themed events including Olaf leading a sing-a-long of "In Summer" and the chance to prepare for the royal coronation with Anna and Elsa.

For a Disney-Pixar addition to the imaginative Oceaneer Club, kids can venture over to Andy's Room and check out the multi-level play space. In this Toy Story-inspired area, kids feel toy-sized among the oversize attractions and can also enjoy a scavenger hunt with Jessie and a hoedown with Woody.

Other fun Oceaneer club features include:

When it comes to mealtime at the Oceaneer Club, Kids can enjoy lunch and dinner to give parents the chance to enjoy adults-only dining. There's also a Dine and Play program that allows kids to have their meals earlier and then be escorted to the youth club to allow parents the opportunity to have a more leisurely dinner.

From the swipe security bracelets that kids wear in order to enter or leave to the hand sanitizing station, everything is interactive while prioritizing a child's safety.

The Oceaneer Lab

Connected to the Oceaneer Club by a secure passage that allows kids the freedom to safely venture between the two is Disney's Oceaneer Lab. Depending on the ship, kids will discover either a seafaring or futuristic theme. Just like the Oceaneer Club, this interactive space is for children between the ages of 3 to 12 years old and offers a variety of engaging activities.

Within the Oceaneer lab there are a variety of rooms that vary among the different ships but highlights include:

Group activities also vary and are subject to change but can include:

Edge

This is an activity center just for tweens to hang out and make memories with peers of the same age. When guests between 11 and 14 years old welcome this unique hang-out, they are able to socialize with kids from all over while enjoying high-tech games and interactive spaces. With computers, video games, and daily guided activities, your tweens aren't going to be ready to leave the party when they close each morning at 1:00 a.m.

Some of the activities tweens can partake in with energetic counselors include:

Edge also offers a basement lounge vibe that welcomes tween to make the space their own while hanging out at the kid-friendly computer lab, video game stations, craft areas, Karaoke machines, and game tables.
