Chrissy Teigen is prioritizing her postpartum health [3] — even if it means missing husband John Legend [4]'s performance of the Grammy-nominated track "God Did" at the 2023 award show. The "Cravings" cookbook author made it clear in a recent Instagram post that she'd rather hang out with her 3-week-old daughter, Esti Maxine [5].
The 37-year-old shared an adorable photo of her newborn sleeping on her chest as the two snuggled into the couch for the evening. She captioned her post [6]: "happy grammy day!! had a dress fitting, looked around and realized. . . . what the hell am I trying to prove here. I cannot get up lol."
Teigen's post continues her trend of being refreshingly blunt about her postpartum life. On Jan. 23, for instance, she shared that she was in the "soggy stage" of healing from her C-section [7]. And four days later, Teigen got real about the many films she's watched while breastfeeding her newborn, writing on Twitter [8] that she and Esti have "a lot of boob/documentary time together right now."
In her most recent Instagram, the comments are full of people affirming Teigen's decision to sit tight, enjoy her time with her newborn, and recover. Legend himself wrote, "Just sitting there fine AF." Dancer Ashley Everett [9] wrote, "You're right where you need to be 💞."
And plenty of doctors probably agree. While it's fine to take short walks after a C-section, Mount Sinai [10] notes that you shouldn't expect to get back to your regular activities until four to eight weeks into recovery, if that. For most noncelebrity folk, "regular activities" probably look like housecleaning or maybe light jogging; no one can blame Teigen for skipping a full-on awards ceremony at a mere three weeks postpartum.
Teigen and Legend's older two kids, 6-year-old Luna and 4-year-old Miles [11], were probably happy to have their mom home with them on Sunday night, too. We hope the family enjoyed a happy night in.
