This Teacher's Black History Month Door Sign Makes an Important Distinction About Slavery

Jovan Bradshaw, a math teacher at Magnolia Middle School in Moss Point, MS, is getting recognized for her poignant door art about slavery. After stumbling upon a meme regarding slavery on social media, she decided to put her own spin on that dark part of US history with a handmade door sign for Black History Month. She shared her creation on Facebook with the caption, "Stay dropping knowledge," and yep, she most certainly did.

"Dear Students, They didn't steal slaves . . . They stole scientists, doctors, architects, teachers, entrepreneurs, astronomers, fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, etc. and they made them slaves," read the yellow door decoration. "Sincerely, your ancestors."

Now, Jovan's sign is going viral, racking up 105,000 shares and 16,000 reactions so far.
