Update, April 10, 2020: As of April 10, Universal Studios announced that it will be extending the closure of Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood [1] until at least through May 31 due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. This includes theme parks and Universal CityWalk at both destinations. The Universal Orlando Resort hotels have also temporarily suspended operations through this time period.

Update, March 24, 2020: In two separate tweets on March 24, Universal Studios announced that it's extending park closures [2] in both its Orlando, FL, and Hollywood, CA, [3] locations until April 19. "We are extending the closure of Universal Orlando resort through April 19 as we continue to respond to current conditions and make the health and safety of team members and guests a top priority," reads one of the tweets. "This includes our theme parks and Universal CityWalk. The Universal Orlando Resort hotels have also temporarily suspended operations. We will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments as needed, based on guidance from health agencies and government officials."

Original Story: Universal Studios Orlando and Hollywood are being temporarily closed due to the coronavirus. A spokesperson announced the news on March 12, stating that it hopes to reopen the California location on March 28. Universal Studios Orlando will remain closed through the end of the month.

The announcement came shortly after California Gov. Gavin Newsom held a press conference postponing gatherings of 250 people or more in an effort to decrease chances of contamination. "The health and safety of our team members and guests [4] is always our top priority," said a Universal Studios spokesperson, adding that the staff is working diligently to monitor the situation to "provide timely updates as conditions evolve."

Not all facets of the resorts, however, will be shutting down. According to a recent Twitter update from Universal's account [6], Universal CityWalk and Universal Studios' hotels in Orlando will remain open. Universal is also working with guests who have already booked vacations, stating that it has "created flexible programs for guests who have booked travel packages or tickets with us." Universal Studios Japan will be closed until March 22, while Universal Studios Singapore will stay open for now. People who have booked a trip to one of the Universal Studios locations can call 877-801-9720 for more information.

Both Disneyland [7] in Anaheim, CA, and Disney World [8] in Orlando, FL, also announced temporary closures beginning March 15.
