Paying Homage to McQueen — the Met Plans an Exhibition
In the ultimate tribute, the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art announced plans to honor McQueen's legacy with an exhibit dedicated to the design talent and fashion world provocateur. Set for next Spring, the museum will stage “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty,” a celebration of the designer's work, open May 4 through July 3.
With plans to feature nearly 100 pieces, Andrew Bolton, who is spearheading the exhibit, is gathering designs that span the designer's full breadth of work, beginning with his graduate collection at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London and culminating with his final collection. Ultimately, it's about honoring the design genius and his "singular voice"; says Bolt, "We want to get across two elements — the spectacle of the runway presentations and the beauty of his craftsmanship.” We couldn't think of a more fitting way to pay homage.
